The Bond of Veterans
The Bond – A unique bond forged in the irreplaceable experiences that shaped each and every one of us. We are not better than anybody, and we are not worse; we simply share a history that makes us the Veterans of the United States Military.
A special understanding exists between us. A shared and often times unspoken language communicates our bond. We share a culture founded from those who marched before us and whose traditions we carried on – we are Veterans of the United States Military.
We marched on the backs of the generations that preceded us and studied their lessons. Now as the 09/11 Era Veteran and the GWOT era Veteran, we owe it to ourselves, our children and America to use our experience and bond to live the best life we can. To strive for excellence in all we do and continue to lead by example following the lessons from our shared history.
It is a challenge to reinvent ourselves once the steadfast years of service to our country are a memory. We've joined the ranks of our fellow Americans and must move on and adjust. We must find our "what's next". Our bond must extend beyond our years of service to how we adapt to life's new missions. Our struggles and victories as Veterans must continue to inspire those among us who still adjust today. To those searching for the “what’s next” may you continue to seek with an open mind and open heart. Find support from our mutual understanding as Veterans that extend beyond our years of service. Life is made up of chapters, and your remaining chapters have yet to be written.
My name is David Johnson and these are OUR STORIES from The Veteran Talk Show.
Veteran Employment Perspective from A Veteran Employer - Episode 5
Having a DD214 doesn’t mean an employer owes you a job… yes, you have a leg up because you have on average 300% more training than non-vets for hire but you still need to market yourself, your abilities, and your skillset.
There are many resources that center around Veteran employment but Jay is one of the best resources that you now have access to through this interview. In this episode of The David Johnson Show, The Veteran Talk Show, hear the point of view from the Employer’s perspective. The employer has to spend time, energy, and money to hire you and cut your paycheck every two weeks. Jay Sheehan, President of FreelaceVets https://freelancevets.com/ has been in the employment space for 20 years. At his peak, he was hiring 2,500 employees a year. Jay addresses the different types of employment from temp to hire, staffing and freelance in this new work-from-home, gig-economy.
Our commitment at The David Johnson show is to bring the veteran community stories, perspectives and the resources, so you can design the life that you deserve. Listen to Jay share his knowledge on why veterans make the best hires and how you can tap into this invaluable resource to get started or take your career to the next level.

Never Stop Working the Problem: A Story on Leadership - Episode 3
The latest guest on The David Johnson Show is Lt. Commander Retired Navy SEAL Jon Fussell. Jon is a former Business Manager at Wellington Management Company, the largest independent investment management firm in the world, and founder of Patriot Leadership Development, a consultancy in which Jon teaches physical and mental approaches to leadership for corporate executives.
In the full episode below, Jon speaks about the importance of coming together and working as a team; his business work in the corporate world; how his military training and leadership has impacted what he does today; and how veterans can adapt to new situations to understand how to move ahead.
“You have to figure out how to work as a team,” says Jon in the episode. “Going through SEAL training, you can't survive that as an individual. You're not getting through there. I'm not going for miles, and miles, and miles, of running with a 400 lb. telephone pole on my shoulder. I certainly didn't do that as an individual. Miles of paddling and rowing, with a 400 lb. boat on your head. You're not doing that as an individual.”

Science Behind Eliminating Fear, Jerry and Blake Peterson of SCARS - Episode 4
The David Johnson Show brings the service community stories and perspective so you can design the life you deserve.
In this episode on The Science of Combat and Eliminating Fears, learn about the combat mindset, the offensive mindset and what Jerry Peterson calls the Empathy Link. Apply this mindset and watch your life transform in front of you. Jerry and Blake Peterson of SCARS INSTITUTE OF COMBAT SCIENCES.
The Science of Human Movement - Jerry Peterson of SCARS talks about how he got into studying martial arts after he returned from Vietnam. He analyzed all different forms of martial arts then looked at them from a different aspect and wondered about the science.
After over 35,000 hours of research, he founded a process he called "Peterson's Dominant Process Systems" which is a combination of geometry and human movement.
“After that, I said, "That's it. This is the science of human movement. The science of how humans can take their body and do anything with it that they need to. They can handle a gun, knife, club, multiple fights." I took it to the government. That's how I got invited to go talk to a group of Navy SEALs.”
“The David Johnson Show” features military veterans growing into successful civilian lives, as well as entrepreneurs who can help those in the military and veteran communities. Each episode is available for streaming on your preferred device.

Navy SEAL Veteran Craig "Sawman" Sawyer Reflects on The Chapters in Your Life - Episode 2
This week’s guest on The David Johnson Show is Navy SEAL veteran, Craig Sawyer, aka ‘Sawman’, who has transitioned from his Navy SEAL and counter-terrorism military career into working in television, the Internet, humanitarian non-profit work and mentoring young veterans on their post-military lives.
In the episode, Craig shares his story of how he started initially with the Marines, but moved into the Navy SEALs in his early 20s. Craig served in the Gulf War (1990-1991), gaining combat experience in Desert Shield and Desert Storm as an Operator at SEAL Team One.
He was later promoted to the Naval Special Warfare Development Group or 'SEAL Team 6', a Counter-Terrorism unit administered by US Naval Special Warfare Command.
In the early 2000s Craig transitioned to a new role with the U.S. Air Marshal program and spent most of the ‘00s in Air Marshal service.
His military operations skills helped him get chosen to lead a military commando team in Africa to halt rhino poachers. This started his work in TV production, movies, acting, voiceover work and more in the past decade on networks like Animal Planet, the Military Channel and The History Channel.
In recent years, Craig’s humanitarian efforts have manifested in his work to combat child sex trafficking through his non-profit Vets4ChildRescue - https://vets4childrescue.org.
“Craig’s background is so amazing, it should really give hope to other military vets looking to make a mark after military service ends,” said David Johnson, host of “The David Johnson Show”. “Craig said to me recently, "I'm in my 50's and I'm just now finding the real passion in my life." That in and of itself is a powerful story. To be in the 50's, with everything he’s done, to see him writing a new chapter is very inspiring. I hope our viewers feel the same.”

The Cost of Being Hooah with Keith Caraway, Episode 1 Podcast
The David Johnson Show launches this week with our first guest Keith Caraway, a 20-year military veteran who entered civilian life in early 2020.
Keith and David have known each other since high school (Shadow Mountain HS, Phoenix) and share a lot of remembrances of their military lives. Click below to the video to watch a segment (or entire episode embed?) from the full interview.
With flowing enthusiasm, Keith Caraway shares how he joined the U.S. Army in 1999 and was sent to Germany. He returned to the U.S. in December 2001, spent some time in the army’s Corporal Recruiting Program program, and soon began gaining multiple deployments, including Special Operations. Eventually, Keith spent all of his 20s in Afghanistan. Keith also shares the challenges of transitioning to civilian life.
David & Keith also talk about the drive of being part of the military family, the pride and power when you hear “HOOAH”, the beloved battle cry of the Army. (The phrase ‘Hooah’ is said to have originated in WWII, when soldiers replied to orders from commanding officers with the short word “HUA”, which was an acronym for ‘heard, understood, acknowledged”.)
“Keith’s had a cool military career, and I wanted to share his experiences with our viewers to kick off the new series,” said David Johnson.”Knowing Keith the way I do, I’m sure you’ll feel his passion and excitement, which really comes across in this interview.”

New Online Talk Show Showcases Military Veterans in Post-Military Life Successes
PHOENIX, ARIZONA, UNITED STATES, April 13, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The David Johnson Show is a new online video show giving a voice to military veterans and military fans in the post-9/11-era.
Premiering in April 2020 at https://thedavidjohnsonshow.com, “The David Johnson Show” is an episode-driven showcase for the American military and veteran sub-culture. Each show episode showcases a different guest with a different story.
Just as each previous military generation had its stories, topics and issues, like the WWII veterans and Vietnam War veterans, post-9/11-era veterans from Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) also have their own culture, community and camaraderie. “The David Johnson Show” will give a wide voice to these veterans and their stories.
“There are 3.3 million veterans who have served our country since September 11, 2001, and my show is designed to bring a community to these post-9/11-era veterans,” said show creator and host David Johnson. “Veterans from this era will definitely enjoy the show because they can clearly relate. We hope you find something impactful from each show that hits home to you. We can all grow together by opening our minds and remaining open to new ideas.”
“The David Johnson Show” will feature a different guest each week who uses military principles to enact change in their communities. He will also focus on military veterans who are growing into new successful civilian lives, as well as entrepreneurs who can help those in the military and veteran communities. Each episode will be available for streaming on your preferred device.
Johnson hopes to move his show into areas similar to how Joe Rogan’s show has shown to be successful, with its unique raw emotion and intense intellectual pursuits.
“I love what Joe Rogan does with his guests,” said David Johnson. “He may speak to a film actor or a book author about their work, but the discussion will often move beyond the expected topics into new areas. That’s our aspiration for the show, to provide educational, entertaining content for our audience, while building a community around The David Johnson Show.”
“The David Johnson Show” is produced by Promotion Board Media, and is the first of several new online video shows planned for the military and veteran community. These shows will be professionally produced, present great information and offer a wide range of related content, like web downloads, DVDs, books and other merchandise of interest to the audience.
